History

Growing up with a father who was a construction superintendent, Alex Kontogeorge worked construction through high school and college. After obtaining his degree, Alex came back to Cullman and noticed something that gave him an idea. There were no equipment rental stores in Cullman which meant that contractors and homeowners had to go out of town to rent equipment. In May of 1992, AK Rentals opened for business and hasn’t looked back since. As a small- to mid-size equipment supplier, AK Rentals buys, sells and trades equipment frequently to meet the needs of contractors and homeowners, and to offer the parts and repairs that save his customers a trip to Birmingham or Huntsville. In 1996, AK Rentals moved across HWY 31 to a new location which became home for more than 30 years! In 2026, the company expanded once again and made the move to an even bigger location at the old Kubota Dixie Tractor property off HWY 157. In 2013, AK Rentals became an Echo Dealership, we sell and repair Echo products. AK Rentals has been named Cullman Times BEST Equipment Rental store every year since 2000! AK Rentals looks forward to serving Cullman County and surrounding counties for years to come!
